Voting Eligibility

To vote in the November 2024 election in California you must be:

A United States citizen and a resident of California
18 years old or older on Election Day
Not currently serving a state or federal prison term for the conviction of a felony
Not currently found mentally incompetent to vote by a court

How to Register to Vote

Register online on the official website from the California Secretary of State.

Pick up a paper voter registration application at any Department of Motor Vehicles field office, many post offices, public libraries, and government offices, or request one from your county elections office.
Receive a voter registration application by mail from the Secretary of State by calling the toll-free Voter Hotline at (800) 345-VOTE (8683).

To register after October 24th:

Complete the Same-Day Voter Registration process and request your ballot in person at your county elections office or polling location.

In California, you can pre-register to vote so that your voter status is in place when you turn 18.
