Who is Daniel Chacon?

Daniel Chacón graduated from Fresno State University and obtained the Masters in Fiction Writing at the University of Oregon. He taught in Minnesota before coming to the University of Texas at El Paso as a full professor in the year 2000. He is the author of the storybook Unending Rooms, a collection of twenty-four stories that won the 2007 Hudson Award, an annual contest supported by the Black Lawrence editorial of New York. He also published the novel And the Shadows Took Him and another collection of stories under the Chicano Chicanery title. Their stories have been translated into French and Spanish. His stories have also been published in several anthologies such as Fresh Language: Latinos Writing on the Edge; Hot: The Best Erotic Writing in Latin American Fiction; and Best of the West 2009: New Stories from the West Side of Missouri. He is co-editor of The Last Supper of Chicano Heroes: The Selected Works of Jose Antonio Burciaga.

Daniel Chacón. Se graduó en la Universidad Estatal de Fresno y obtuvo su Maestría en escritura de ficción en la Universidad de Óregon. Enseñó en Minnesota antes de venir a la Universidad del Paso Texas como profesor titular en el año 2000. Es autor del libro de cuentos Unending Rooms una colección de veinticuatro historias que obtuvieron en el año 2007 el Premio Hudson, concurso anual respaldado por la editorial Black Lawrence de Nueva York. También publicó la novela And the Shadows Took Him y otra colección de cuentos bajo el título de Chicano Chicanery. Sus historias han sido traducidas al francés y al español. También han sido publicados cuentos suyos en varias antologías como Lengua Fresca: Latinos Writing on the Edge; Caliente: The Best Erotic Writing in Latin American Fiction; and Best of the West 2009: New Stories from the West Side of the Missouri. In the barrio of Fresno, California, the Molina family is living out the Chicano version of the American Dream. Father William works on an assembly line while his wife, the well-bred beauty Rachel, stays at home to care for their three children--and to keep them off the streets. But when William is offered an opportunity to enter the ranks of the middle class, he quits his job, packs up the Ford Maverick, and transports the Molinas to a brand-new world: the small town of Medford, Oregon.

En el barrio de Fresno, California, la familia Molina vive la versión chicana del Sueño Americano. El padre William trabaja en una cadena de montaje mientras su esposa, la bella y bien educada Rachel, se queda en casa para cuidar de sus tres hijos y mantenerlos alejados de las calles. Pero cuando se le ofrece a William la  oportunidad de ingresar al nivel de la clase media, renuncia  a su trabajo empaca el Ford Maverick  y transporta a la  familia  Molina a un mundo completamente nuevo: la pequeña ciudad de Medford,Oregon.
