Welcome to Napa Valley College Library

McCarthy Library Website: TECHNOLOGY

The library has laptops, Wi-Fi Hotspots, and calculators for currently enrolled students. These devices are for semester-long checkout. Please complete the following form before coming to pick up your device(s) at the library front desk. Proof of identification will be required.

Notes:

  • Laptops are Windows devices.
  • Wi-Fi Hotspots contain a mobile router and can be used to connect to several devices at once without the need for additional software.
  • Calculators (scientific or graphing) are available to students who are enrolled in Math or Science classes.

The purpose of the Apple and Windows desktop computers in the library is to support students with their coursework. Computers are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Use your student email address and password (NVC login) to sign in to a computer.

Individuals not affiliated with NVC (i.e., members of the public) are welcome to use any available computer labeled "Public Access." If all computers are in use and a student needs to use a computer for their coursework, members of the public will be asked to make the computer they are using available for the student. In addition, a student using a computer for any non-academic purpose will be asked to give up their computer if a student needs a computer to do coursework.

The following activities are not permitted on library computers:

  • Online gaming
  • Viewing movies and videos recreationally
  • Viewing of pornography (also not allowed on personal computers or devices in the library)

If you have classwork, and there are no computers available, please ask library staff for assistance. Providing access to students is our highest priority, and during busy times we may need to implement a time limit to folks who are not studying.

Copier, printer, and scanner (bring your own flash drive) are available for student use.

The Library has three media viewing rooms which can hold up to 6 people. Room keys are available at the front desk for groups of two or more students working on class assignments. Providing access to students is our highest priority, and during busy times we may need to implement a time limit.

The campus-wide Wi-Fi, NVC Storm, is available throughout the McCarthy Library Building. Once you locate the network, you will be prompted to accept the legal terms and conditions of the college in order to connect. No password is required to connect to NVC Storm and it is open to anyone on campus regardless of affiliation with the college.
